In 2003, a loosely knit group of artists
formed a critique group called Mettle. Their main goal was
to better integrate critical dialogue with artistic practice.
The group flourished and it wasn't long before the question
was posed: What do we do with all this energy and talent?
As luck would have it, Alex Echo, an established artist
in DUMBO agreed to lend Tim Kent some unused studio space. Tim
started out by producing a large works on paper show.
At the close of the show, a few of us were so energized by
the experience, we thought, let's do it again, but this time
let's design a logo and write a press release.
One thing led to another, and TAG Projects was born. A year
later we had three shows under our belt, a positive review
from The New York Times and we'd sold some great work.
We look forward
to producing more shows as the opportunities present themselves. It is a great way
to combat the isolation that often comes with producing art
and it invigorates our creative process.

Currently a hand full of original members and a bunch of new players are meeting for a monthly art discussion group. We visit artist's studios or exhibitions and talk about art. How did you arrive at this solution? What is working, what isn't? Is it communicating the way you intended?
We are currently discussing the possibility of organizing another show. Stay tuned.
