TAG Projects organizes a monthly art discussion group which meets on the third Sunday of each month, from 2-4 (baring scheduling conflicts.) We are always interested in visiting the studios or exhibitions of other artists. Involvement is casual and generally word-of-mouth, but feel free to Contact Us if you would like to come.
Structure
Each month, two artists present and discuss their work with the group. Each artist gets about an hour. We usually have about 8-12 people for each meeting, but we have had as many as 16. If no one has work to show, we meet to discuss a current show, a piece of art criticism or a current cultural event.
Format
The overall goal of the meeting is to create an environment for lively, non-pretentious communication. The exhibiting artists are encouraged to steer the conversation in whatever direction they choose. It can be a traditional critique (ant typically is), but we can be a sounding board for a new idea in conjunction with a study, we can review an artist’s statement to see how well it serves the work, etc…
Purpose
To break up the isolation of the studio with art-focused social interaction.
To keep the critical, verbal parts of our brains warm. To build relationships, encourage, support and motivate each other.
To improve the work we do and to to build our careers.
Future
We have collaboratively produced two exhibitions (Growing Up in Public and Alter and Circulate) and plan to organize other shows in the future. Other activities may involve creating a publication, catalogue or fanzine. We encourage our members to collaborate and offshoots from this group are expected.
